SoV - Share of Voice

The percentage of your tracked AI-search questions where an engine mentions your brand at all, out of every question you track.

Share of voice answers one question: out of everything shoppers ask AI engines in your category, how often do you actually get named? Track 20 questions, get mentioned in 12 of them, and your share of voice is 60%.

It is measured per engine (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity can each answer the same question differently) and overall. A brand can have strong share of voice on one engine and be invisible on another, so the per-engine breakdown matters as much as the headline number.

Unlike a search-rank position, share of voice is a yes-or-no per question: either the engine mentioned you or it did not. That makes the follow-up question sharp and actionable: for every question where you were not mentioned, who was named instead, and what page of theirs earned that spot.

Track it the same way you would track rank in classic SEO: watch the trend over time, not a single snapshot. A rising share of voice after you publish new content is the clearest signal the work is paying off.
