Setting shipping cost so contribution margin is complete
A per-order shipping cost, by market, sits next to your per-SKU COGS so contribution margin reflects what an order actually cost you to fulfil, not just what the product itself cost.
Why this exists
Per-SKU product cost (COGS) answers what the item cost. It does not answer what shipping that order cost you, and for a lot of brands shipping is a real, material part of the margin picture that was previously invisible here.
How it is entered
Settings > Costs has a 'Shipping cost per order' section below the per-unit cost groups: a brand-default amount, plus optional per-market overrides written as MARKET:AMOUNT pairs separated by commas, for example DE:5, US:7.50.
- 1Open Settings > Costs and find 'Shipping cost per order'.
- 2Enter a brand default per-order amount in your base currency, or leave it blank if you have none.
- 3Add per-market overrides as a comma-separated list, MARKET:AMOUNT, for any market whose shipping cost differs from the default.
- 4Save. The new figure applies going forward; it does not retroactively rewrite past contribution-margin figures.
The rule, so the two settings never double up
When a market has a resolved per-order shipping cost, either its own override or the brand default, contribution margin uses that amount PER ORDER instead of any per-unit shipping_cost already set on a cost group. The two are never added together.
A market with neither setting simply keeps using the per-unit shipping cost on its cost group, exactly as before this setting existed, so adding this is additive and nothing already configured breaks by ignoring it.
