AI visibility
Every week Vibel asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity the questions your shoppers ask, and checks whether your brand gets mentioned. See your share of voice, find the questions where a competitor gets recommended instead, and fix it with an answer article.
What does AI search visibility mean for your store?
AI visibility is whether ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity mention your brand when a shopper asks a question in your category. Vibel checks this every week and shows you the answer as a share-of-voice score plus the exact questions where a competitor got named instead of you.
More shoppers now ask an AI chat assistant a question instead of typing it into Google, things like "best non-toxic play mat" or "comfiest running shoes for flat feet". If the AI never mentions your brand in its answer, you are invisible to that shopper no matter how good your Google ranking is. People sometimes call this GEO, short for generative engine optimization: the same idea as SEO, just aimed at AI answer engines instead of a search results page. AI visibility (/settings/visibility) and the AI visibility section on the SEO studio (/seo) are where Vibel does this for you.
How does the weekly AI visibility check work?
Add the questions you want to track, called prompts, things a real shopper might ask. Vibel calls this a probe: once a week it asks each tracked prompt to every AI engine that is live (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity), reads the answer, and records whether your brand was mentioned, at roughly what position, and which competitors came up instead.
How many prompts and engines you get, and how often they are checked, depends on your plan. The AI visibility page and the AI usage settings page both show your usage against that limit, so you always know where you stand.
Good to know
- Live probing only runs once at least one AI engine is switched on behind the scenes. Until then, both pages tell you plainly that probing is not live yet, and you can still build your prompt and competitor list ahead of time.
- A prompt or engine over your plan's limit is simply skipped for that week, never silently dropped, it picks back up once you upgrade or free up room.
What is share of voice, and what is the missing-queries table?
Share of voice is the percentage of your tracked prompts where an engine mentions your brand at all. The AI visibility section on /seo shows this per engine and overall, plus how it is trending versus the previous weekly check.
The missing-queries table is the useful part: it lists every prompt where at least one engine did not mention you, which engines missed it, and who the AI recommended instead. That is your competitor's free advertising, and now you can see exactly where it is happening.
What should you do about a missed query?
AI answer engines learn from published content. If nothing on the web clearly and directly answers a question, the engine has nothing of yours to cite, so it reaches for whoever does have a good answer published, often a competitor.
The fix is what we call the answer-article play: turn the missed question straight into a piece of content that answers it clearly. Take the exact wording from the missing-queries table, track it as a keyword on the SEO studio (/seo), generate a content brief from it, and push that brief as a draft article to your Shopify blog. Publish it, and you have a real page an AI engine can find and quote the next time it gets asked that question.
This will not flip overnight; AI engines re-crawl and re-answer on their own schedule. Keep an eye on the prompt's trend line on /seo. A rising trend after you publish means the play is working.
Managing prompts and competitors
Add, pause or delete tracked prompts from AI visibility (/settings/visibility). Pausing keeps the history but stops using up your weekly quota on a question you no longer care about.
The competitors list on the same page tells Vibel which other brand names to watch for in an AI's answer. Add every real competitor you know by name; without them, Vibel can still tell you whether you were mentioned, but it cannot tell you who beat you to the answer.
Good to know
- If probing is not live yet, both the AI visibility page and the SEO studio show a plain amber notice saying so, no digging required to find out why the numbers look empty.
- The AI usage settings page (/settings/ai-usage) shows exactly how much of your plan's prompt and engine allowance you are using, next to what it is costing.
